Little Programmer

September 3rd, 2008 by Walmik

We just installed MS Logo (Microsoft Logic Oriented Graphic Oriented, an educational programming language) on Rig’s machine and he showed me the basics of it. He is programming already! He was introduced to MS Logo by his school computer class. I had downloaded it some time ago with a bunch of video and pdf tutorials for him. It has a command line interface and you can type in stuff to make the ‘turtle’ (a pointer) move around leaving a trail so that an image can be formed. You can later save this image.

I got my first real six string

June 21st, 2008 by Walmik

Some days ago Rigved told me that he is going to be in a band! So today I bought Rigved his very own acoustic guitar from Bhargava’s… Rigved wanted it for some time now and he was absolutely thrilled on getting it. I also got him a book on World War I… this too he wanted for quite some time now.

Just some time ago we saw The House of Flying Daggers… Its 2:15 in the morning right now and Rigved is reading a Satyajit Ray story called Fotikchand… I insisted him to read it as I read it last night and I was truly shaken by it. These days Rigved reads for quite some time in the night and goes to bed very late. The school began this week on the 16th (Banda’s birthday) and in the first week itself, he has been made the monitor, has got a few stars and full marks in a dictation test that he did not even prepare for. I sincerely feel that its due to his reading habit.

Rigved has started learning animation using Flash and he has shown some serious development on the basis of the very few basic things I showed him. He has said on many occasions that he wants to be an animator who makes films. He is at that age where inability to do something is not considered a setback… it is just a hurdle that one can jump over. Some times I feel that he is really gearing himself for a very big journey, a journey that doesn’t take him towards the North star, but makes him the North star.

Home Alone

February 27th, 2008 by Walmik

Today for the first time in his life, Rigved was alone at home. I had to go to the office for a couple of hours and Banda wasn’t at home. Rigved was just thrilled. He must have been alone for not more than 2 hours as Banda came home by then. We panicked a bit as we couldn’t reach our home number as he had not replaced the receiver properly. In his brief stint of being alone at home, he did one of his most fav activities – playing World of Warcraft. Currently he is a Dranei Shaman and today he reached level 59!

Also today he installed something for the first time – The Encarta. At the moment he is looking through its History pages learning about the wars in the 20th century.

Quick Movies

May 12th, 2006 by Walmik

Rigved generally makes something out of CDs. This is something he picked from ´MAD´ a TV program on Pogo. He has made an owl, a peacock and stuff like that using the CDs. Today i gave him a couple of CDs that i did not need anymore. He took a marker and wrote ´Panchtantra´ on one of them and ´Moral Stories´ on the other one. Then he made a computer with pillows and cushions. It had a screen, keyboard, CPU and also a scanner! He said he´s going to watch the movies he just wrote on the CDs along with his toys!
